  • “Command the Israelites to bring you clear oil of pressed olives for the light so that the lamps may be kept burning.” Exodus 27:20
  • “At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the bridegroom. 2 Five of them were foolish and five were wise.  3 The foolish ones took their lamps but did not take any oil with them.  4 The wise, however, took oil in jars along with their lamps.  5 The bridegroom was a long time in coming, and they all became drowsy and fell asleep.  6 At midnight the cry rang out: ‘Here’s the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’10 …the bridegroom arrived. The virgins who were ready went in with him to the wedding banquet. And the door was shut. 11 Later the others also came. ‘Sir! Sir!’ they said. ‘Open the door for us!’  12 But he replied, ‘I tell you the truth, I don’t know you.’  13 Therefore keep watch, because you do not know the day or the hour.”  Matt 25:1-6, 10-13
  • “They made the lampstand of pure gold and hammered it out, … And on the lampstand were four cups shaped like almond flowers …” Exodus 37:17&20
  • I see a solid gold lampstand with a bowl at the top and seven lights on it, with seven channels to the lights. Also there are two olive trees by it, one on the right of the bowl and the other on its left.  This is the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty.”  Zech 4:2,3,6
  • “Fill your horn with oil and be on your way; I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem. I have chosen one of his sons to be king…Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart…Then the LORD said, Rise and anoint him; he is the one. So Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the presence of his brothers, and from that day on the Spirit of the LORD came upon David in power.” 1 Samuel 16:1,7,12,13

Oil is the symbol of God’s anointing on your life.  When you have the anointing of the Holy Spirit you can walk in light and in power.  Don’t leave home without it!

  • Excerpts from Matthew 27

28They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him, 29and then twisted together a crown of thorns and set it on his head.  They put a staff in his right hand and knelt in front of him and mocked him. “Hail, king of the Jews!” they said. 30They spit on him, and took the staff and struck him on the head again and again. 31After they had mocked him, they took off the robe and put his own clothes on him. Then they led him away to crucify him.

The Crucifixion

32…they met a man…and they forced him to carry the cross. 33They came to a place called Golgotha (which means The Place of the Skull)… 35When they had crucified him… 37Above his head they placed the written charge against him: THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS. In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. 42″He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the King of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. 43He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’  …50And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.  51At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. 52The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. 53They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus’ resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people.  54When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

  • “Anyone who loves his father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who loves his son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and anyone who does not take his cross and follow me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it.” Matthew 10:37-39
  • “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written:
KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.” Revelations 19:16

It was an act of complete love.     To give up every earthly thing; fame, power, influence, love, family, friends, wealth, peace, His entire life, so that you and I could live eternally in the presence of God in heaven.  I am so grateful for that sacrifice. And I willingly give up my earthly life for a life of service to my Heavenly King.

Collection Inspiration

  • “Be glad; rejoice forever in my creation!”  Isaiah 65:18
  • “The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands.” Psalm  19:1
  • “2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. 3 And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light… 11 Then God said, “Let the land produce vegetation… 20 And God said, “Let the water teem with living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the sky.” 31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day.”  Genesis 1
  • “The Lord is good to everyone. He showers compassion on all his creation.”  Psalm 145:9
  • “Christ is the visible image of the invisible God.
He existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation,
16 for through him God created everything
in the heavenly realms and on earth.
He made the things we can see
and the things we can’t see—
such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world.
Everything was created through him and for him.
17 He existed before anything else,
and he holds all creation together.”  Colossians 8
  • 19 For all creation is waiting eagerly for that future day when God will reveal who his children really are. 20 Against its will, all creation was subjected to God’s curse(see Genesis 3:17). But with eager hope, 21 the creation looks forward to the day when it will join God’s children in glorious freedom from death and decay. 22 For we know that all creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. 23 And we believers also groan, even though we have the Holy Spirit within us as a foretaste of future glory, for we long for our bodies to be released from sin and suffering. We, too, wait with eager hope for the day when God will give us our full rights as his adopted children, including the new bodies he has promised us. 24 We were given this hope when we were saved.”  Romans 8

Did you know the earth was cursed?  God’s beautiful creation cursed because man could not obey one simple rule.  Adam’s job was to tend and care for the earth, but instead he caused it to be cursed.  So Romans 8 says that all of creation now growns waiting to be released from the curse.  I think of that groaning when I hear of earthquakes and other natural disasters.  So let’s honor creation by being good stewards, thankful for her gifts, and honoring the Creator of it. Amen!

Stripes

Collection Inspirations

God’s got your back.  Jesus was flogged with a whip made of leather strips tied with bits of metal.  Why?  It was brutal, but it was for our protection and eternal healing.

Materials:  Luxurious cowhide leathers with goldfill findings.

The leather and metal are symbolic of the whip used to flog Jesus before he was crucified.  It was a brutal beating, but it was for a purpose.  God was the first to shed blood.  In Genesis 3 Adam and Eve sinned and tried to cover up their sin with leaves.  But God, out of His Perfect Love, made a better covering for them by killing animals and using their hide to make tunics for them.  There is no remission of sin with out the spilling of blood, and Jesus’ perfect, sinless blood, is the one time for all covering.  His body, ripped and striped with blood covers us eternally.

Collection Inspirations

  • “Then Pilate had Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip.”  John 19:1
  • “So Pilate … ordered Jesus flogged with a lead-tipped whip, then turned him over to the Roman soldiers to be crucified.”  Matt 27:26
  • “by His stripes we are healed.” Isaiah 53:5
  • “for Adam and his wife the Lord God made tunics of skin, and clothed them.” Genesis 3:21
  • “Complete the tent covering(for the Tabernacle, the place of God’s presence) with a protective layer of tanned ram skins and a layer of fine goatskin leather.”  Exodus 26:14
  •  “The same instructions apply to both the guilt offering and the sin offering. Both belong to the priest who uses them to purify someone, making that person right with the Lord. In the case of the burnt offering, the priest may keep the hide of the sacrificed animal.”  Leviticus 7:7-8
  • ““When these things begin to happen, watch out! You will be handed over to the local councils and beaten in the synagogues. You will stand trial before governors and kings because you are my followers. But this will be your opportunity to tell them about me.”  Mark 13:9

We face many trials in this life, but if we submit them to the Lord, we can be assured that in the end God’s got our back.  He used animal hides to cover Adam and Eve and His Tabernacle in the wilderness.  He allowed the priests to keep the animal hides after sin offerings, a reminder of their value.  Then He allowed Jesus’ “hide” to be ripped and torn so that our eternal covering would never have to be.  Our earthly skin may be beaten and bruised, but our eternal soul is covered in Christ.  Amen!
